Absences

A. Sick Leave
(1) Each teacher shall be entitled to ten days absence for personal illness, illness of child, wife, husband (limit of 5 days), or death in the immediate family. (Immediate family shall be interpreted as husband, wife, child, father, mother, sister or brother, in-laws, or any other member of the family unit living in the same household, no matter what degree of relationship.) Illness which is of near death nature in the case of members of the immediate family shall be counted as sick leave.

B. Personal Leave
Each teacher in the United Public School District shall have three days of personal leave each year. These days are non-accumulative.

(1) Requests for personal leave shall be given to the building principal 24 hours in advance.
(2) Personal leave must be taken in increments of at least one-half days.
(3) No personal leave may be taken the first ten (10) school days of the school year before or after Christmas vacation or the last ten (10) days of the school year, without prior consent of the superintendent of schools.
(4) Provided, however, that no more than two of the elementary teachers and two of the high school teachers may receive personal leave at any one time.
(5) Provided that first requests will be honored first.
